Expect to see the "Dawn of the Mutant Age" when FOX's series "The Gifted" returns with its second season this September.

Following its premiere at San Diego Comic Con this weekend, the first official trailer has been released for Season 2 of the Mutant-centric action-drama, which is set in the X-Men universe.

Season One started off by following the Struckers family as they were forced to leave their lives behind after mutant brother-sister Lauren and Andy Strucker (played by Natalie Alyn Lind and Percy Hynes White) were tagged and targeted by an anti-mutant government agency, called the Sentinel Services. Lauren and Andy, along with their parents, Reed and Caitlin (Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker), had no other choice but to join an underground network of fugitive mutants, called the Mutant Underground, led by Thunderbird (Blair Redford), with help from Polaris (Emma Dumont), Eclipse (Sean Teale), and newest member Blink (Jamie Chung).

While much of Season One involved a cat-and-mouse battle between the Mutant Underground and the Sentinel Services, Season Two appears to center on a brewing war between a now-fractured Mutant Underground and the Inner Circle, an anti-human mutant club led by a powerful new villain named Reeva (played by Empire's Grace Byers). She is backed up by a now-pregnant Polaris and an angry Andy Strucker, both whom had flipped sides since last season's finale.

Besides the mutant Reeva, Season Two will introduce a new cast of mutant characters, including those who are living underground in a subterranean community, known in the comic books as "the Morlocks."

Created by Matt Nix (Burn Notice), "The Gifted: Season 2" is set to premiere September 25th on Fox.
