FOX has released a new trailer for "The Darkest Minds," the upcoming dystopian teen thriller that stars Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games, Everything Everything) as a 16-year-old fugitive with extraordinary powers.

The film, which marks the live-action directorial debut of acclaimed animation helmer Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3), is based on the best-selling YA dystopian novel by Alexandra Bracken.

Set in a not-too-distant future where a mysterious virus nearly wipes out Earth's entire children population, the remaining kid survivors discover that they have all developed special superhuman abilities as a direct result of the global epidemic. Now viewed as a threat by the government, every young person is rounded up, separated from their families, and placed in detention centers.

Ruby (Stenberg), one of the most powerful teenagers in the world, finds a way to escape a government prison with a couple fellow runaways. She and her group end up joining an underground network of teen fugitives, just as they are forming a unified insurgency against the government.

The cast also includes Harris Dickinson (FX's Trust) and Skylan Brooks (Netflix's The Get Down) with Mandy Moore (NBC's This is Us) as a compassionate government scientist and Gwendoline Christie (HBO's Game of Thrones) as an unsympathetic government tracker.

"The Darkest Minds" arrives in theaters on August 3rd.

synopsis:
When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon this newfound family realizes that, in a world in which the adults in power have betrayed them, running is not enough and they must wage a resistance, using their collective power to take back control of their future.
