Award-winning documentarian Kirby Dick and producer Amy Ziering, who are the same team behind the Oscar-nominated documentaries "The Invisible War" and "The Hunting Ground," are back with a new eye-opening investigative film that takes a critical look at the $400 billion medical device industry.

Set to premiere on Netflix this month, "The Bleeding Edge" delves into the murky side of America's health care system and its medical device industry, exploring the reason why defected medical devices have become the third leading cause of death in the United States.

"Companies new products may not be safer than other products in the market. But they will promote them to drive up their profits," says one analyst in the official trailer for the Netflix original documentary. "What they did was willfully ignore the risks that they were putting these people to without telling them."

After premiering to strong reviews at this year's Tribeca Film Festival, "The Bleeding Edge" will start streaming on July 27th.

synopsis:
America has the most technologically advanced health care system in the world, yet medical interventions have become the third leading cause of death, and the overwhelming majority of high-risk implanted devices never require a single clinical trial. In The Bleeding Edge, Academy Award nominated filmmakers Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering (The Invisible War, The Hunting Ground) turn their sights on the $400 billion medical device industry, examining lax regulations, corporate cover-ups, and profit driven incentives that put patients at risk daily. Weaving emotionally powerful stories of people whose lives have been irrevocably harmed, the film asks: what life-saving technologies may actually be killing us?
