Shannon Purser, the breakout star who played the fan-favorite character Barb in the first season of the hit '80s-era horror series "Stranger Things," is coming back to Netflix. Only this time, she takes on her first leading role in a Cyrano de Bergerac-inspired teenage rom-com.

Check out the first official trailer for "Sierra Burgess Is a Loser," a coming-of-age, romantic comedy that casts Purser as Sierra, a socially awkward high school band geek who, by happenstance, ends up having a text-message relationship with her childhood crush, Jamey (played by "The Fosters" actor Noah Centineo).

But there's a slight problem here -- Rather than believing he's communicating with the funny, intelligent Sierra, Jamey actually believes he's talking to Veronica, the most popular and prettiest girl at school (played by model/actress Kristine Froseth). As a result, Sierra, who desperately wants to continue the "catfish"-like charade, is forced to enlist Veronica's help.

Co-starring RJ Cyler (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), Alan Ruck (Ferris Bueller's Day Off), and Lea Thompson (Back to the Future), the Netflix original film is directed by first-time feature helmer Ian Samuels (award-winning short "Myrna the Monster") and is written by rising screenwriter Lindsey Beer, whose upcoming writing credits include Doug Liman's "Chaos Walking" and Sam Raimi and Lin-Manuel Miranda's big-screen adaptation of Patrick Rothfuss' best-selling magician novel "The Kingkiller Chronicle."

"Sierra Burgess Is a Loser" premieres September 7th on Netflix.
