Matt Dillon plays a local village doctor who takes in a young Hawaiian orphan boy as his apprentice in the trailer for the period melodrama "Running For Grace."

Directed and co-written by Hawaii-raised indie filmmaker David L. Cunningham (To End All Wars, Beyond Paradise), the film is set against the backdrop of the segregated coffee fields in 1920's Hawaii.

Ryan Potter, the voice actor who played 'Hiro' in the animated blockbuster "Big Hero 6," stars as a quick-footed orphan boy named Jo, who becomes the apprentice and assistant of a seasoned medical physician (Dillon) who has been hired to look after the coffee pickers on a local Hawaiian plantation.

The film, which also stars Jim Caviezel (from TV's "Person of Interest" and "The Passion of the Christ"), focuses on Jo's upbringing as he learns the tools of the medical trade, while also falling in love with the plantation owner's aling teenage daughter (played by newcomer Olivia Ritchie).

"Running For Grace" is being released in theaters and VOD on August 17th.

A timeless tale that takes place against the backdrop of the segregated coffee fields in 1920's Hawaii -- a coming of age journey about a young man who transcends the boundaries of race and class in pursuit of a forbidden love.

In RUNNING FOR GRACE, an orphan boy (Ryan Potter) of mixed race finds family with the newly arrived white village doctor (Matt Dillon) in Hawaii. The boy can run like the wind, and begins bringing Doc's medicine to coffee pickers throughout the mountainous region. On an errand, the medicine runner meets the daughter (Olivia Ritchie) of the plantation owner and a forbidden, young love blossoms like the white "Kona Snow" of the surrounding coffee trees.
