Okay, now watch one of the most innovative and creatively designed trailers to come out this year. It's the official trailer for "Madeline's Madeline," which is the third feature film from indie filmmaker and New York performance artist Josephine Decker.

Village Voice critic Bilge Ebiri called it "The Best Film I Saw at Sundance," and it has won several Jury Prize awards at a number of film festivals this year.

Featuring a star-making performance by newcomer Helena Howard, "Madeline's Madeline" tells the story of a precocious 16 year-old aspiring actress who, while working on her own personal theater art-piece, finds herself being pulled apart by two different women: her artsy-fartsy acting teacher (played by "Lost in Space" star Molly Parker) and her mercurial mother (played by filmmaker/performance artist Miranda July).

Acquired by New York-based distributor Oscilloscope Laboratories, "Madeline's Madeline" will be released theatrically in New York on August 10th and in Los Angeles on August 17th with other cities to follow. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
Madeline (newcomer Helena Howard) has become an integral part of a prestigious physical theater troupe. When the workshop's ambitious director (Molly Parker) pushes the teenager to weave her rich interior world and troubled history with her mother (Miranda July) into their collective art, the lines between performance and reality begin to blur. The resulting battle between imagination and appropriation rips out of the rehearsal space and through all three women's lives.

Writer/director Josephine Decker has long been an independent filmmaker to admire, utilizing a welcome expressionistic approach that imbues her subjects with a vibrant sense of urgency. Anchored by a virtuoso performance from newcomer Helena Howard, whose powerful screen presence commands attention, Decker's film displays a rare sensitivity for capturing the messy struggles of discovering a sense of one's self that defies easy narrative categorization.
