Timothee Chalamet, the breakout star of the critically acclaimed drama "Call Me by Your Name," plays a young man struggling with addiction in the new official trailer for "Beautiful Boy," which also stars Steve Carell as Chalamet's long-suffering father.

The film, which takes place over the course of several years, tells the painful true story of how journalist David Sheff (portrayed here by Carell) tried to support his young drug-addicted son, Nic Sheff (Chalamet) while he was struggling toward recovery.

Based on David Sheff's bestselling memoir "Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction" and also based on Nic Sheff's own memoir "Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines," the film is directed by acclaimed Belgian director Felix Van Groeningen, who previously made the Oscar-nominated foreign drama "The Broken Circle Breakdown."

Written by Van Groeningen and Oscar-nominated writer Luke Davies (Lion, Candy), and co-starring Maura Tierney and Amy Ryan, "Beautiful Boy" will be released in select theaters on October 12th, via Amazon Studios.

Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, "Beautiful Boy" chronicles the heartbreaking and inspiring experience of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years.
