"Girls Trip" and "Scary Movie" star Regina Hall, who is primarily known for her comedic chops, seems to be delivering a strong and nuanced performance as a hard-working, yet struggling manager of a Hooters-like restaurant in the newly-released trailer for "Support the Girls."

The female-driven dramedy, which also features Haley Lu Richardson (The Edge of Seventeen, Split), AJ Michalka (TV's The Goldbergs), Dylan Gelula (Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and rapper/musician "Junglepussy" a.k.a. Shayna McHayle (in her first acting role) as a tight-knit group of Hooters-like waitresses, is the latest from writer-director Andrew Bujalski, whose credits include the critically acclaimed lo-fi indie movies "Computer Chess," "Results," and "Mutual Appreciation."

The film also co-stars Lea DeLaria (Orange Is the New Black), James Le Gros (TV's Justified), Brooklyn Decker (Netflix's Grace and Frankie), and Jana Kramer (TV's One Tree Hill).

Acquired by Magnolia Pictures after premiering to mostly positive reviews at this year's SXSW, "Support the Girls" is slated for an August 24 theatrical release. Watch the trailer, above.

synopsis:
Lisa Conroy (Regina Hall) is the last person you'd expect to find in a highway-side 'sports bar with curves'-- but as general manager at Double Whammies, she's come to love the place and its customers. An incurable den mother, she nurtures and protects her girls fiercely -- but over the course of one trying day, her optimism is battered from every direction... Double Whammies sells a big, weird American fantasy, but what happens when reality pokes a bunch of holes in it?
