Check out the newly-released trailer for the upcoming 4K restoration release of the classic 1978 Vietnam War drama "The Deer Hunter," which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Produced and directed by Michael Cimino, the masterpiece film, which ended up winning five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor for Christopher Walken, centers on a group of lifelong friends from a small industrial town in Pennsylvania (played by Robert De Niro, Walken, and John Savage) whose lives are forever changed after being sent to fight in the Vietnam War.

After narrowly escaping the horrors of a Vietcong prisoner-of-war camp, Michael (De Niro's character) is finally able to come back home, only to discover that the war has left him psychologically damaged. Unable to shift back to civilian life, Michael sets out to rescue his old deer-hunting and war buddy, Nick (Walken's character), who has since gone AWOL in Saigon, where he's caught up in the dark seedy world of underground Russian roulette.

Co-starring "Godfather" actor John Cazale (in his final film role) and a young Meryl Streep, "The Deer Hunter" will be released back in theaters in the U.K. on July 4th and will then be released on 4K Blu-ray later in the summer.

synopsis:
The masterpiece stars Robert De Niro as Michael Vronsky, a factory worker from Pennsylvania. Michael's life is changed irrevocably when he and his two closest friends are recruited to fight in Vietnam. One of the most influential films ever made, The Deer Hunter has lost none of its power.
