From Lenny Abrahamson, the Oscar-nominated director of "Room," comes a new spooky British thriller that sees Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), Ruth Wilson (SHO's The Affair), Will Poulter (Detroit), and Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow) as four unfortunate souls staying at a haunted mansion.

Check out the first official trailer for "The Little Stranger," Abrahamson's forthcoming film adaptation of Sarah Waters' best-selling 2009 mystery thriller novel of the same name, which sees Gleeson as a 1940s British doctor who is called in to treat a young PTSD-afflicted and badly burned WWII veteran (Poulter), only to realize that his patient is living at a creepy, haunted country estate, whose history -- which just so happens -- is closely intertwined with the doctor's tragic childhood past.

Adapted for the screen by "The Danish Girl" scribe Lucinda Coxon, "The Little Stranger" is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on August 31st.

synopsis:
THE LITTLE STRANGER tells the story of Dr Faraday, the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. During the long hot summer of 1948, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked. The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries. But it is now in decline and its inhabitants - mother, son and daughter - are haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life. When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely, and how disturbingly, the family's story is about to become entwined with his own.
