HBO has released the official trailer for "Sharp Objects," a new limited series that's based on the 2006 mystery novel by best-selling "Gone Girl" author Gillian Flynn, and stars five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams in her first television role in over a decade.
In the eight-episode mystery thriller, Adams plays an emotionally-scarred crime journalist who confronts her traumatic past when she returns to her small southern hometown to report on the grisly murders of two preteen girls.
Patricia Clarkson co-stars as Adams' passive-aggressive perfectionist mother, while "IT" actress Sophia Lillis is playing the young version of Adams' character in flashback scenes.
Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning director Jean-Marc Vallee (of "Dallas Buyers Club" and "Big Little Lies") directs the entire eight-episode run of the limited drama, which was developed into a series by "UnREAL" and "Dietland" creator Marti Noxon and is executive produced by "Get Out" producer Jason Blum working alongside Noxon, Adams and Flynn.
Co-starring Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Matt Craven, and Elizabeth Perkins, "Sharp Objects" is slated to premiere Sunday, July 8th on HBO.
