While mastering the power of lucid dreaming, a young man goes on a spiritual road trip in the psychedelic indie film "Zen Dog."

Written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Rick Darge, the movie touches on the themes of lucid dreams (meaning: dreams during which the dreamer is aware that he or she is dreaming).

The film stars Kyle Gallner, who co-starred in the short-lived outlaw series "Outsiders" and also appeared in such films as "The Finest Hours," "American Sniper," and "Dear White People."

Gallner plays "Mud," an anxiety-riddled man who gets to live out the life he always wanted after plunging into the fantasy-sleep world of lucid dreaming.

Co-starring Adam Herschman, Celia Diane, and Clea Duvall, "Zen Dog," which won the Jury Prize at 2016's Raindance Film Festival, will be released on VOD and Blu-Ray beginning June 22nd.

synopsis:
Mud (Kyle Gallner) has been trapped in his daily routine for a long time. He runs a struggling virtual reality startup that promises to transport users to exotic locations from the comfort of their homes. Plagued by recurring nightmares of a stranger’s suicide, Mud has a difficult time coping with his monotonous existence. One day, his eccentric cousin Dwayne (Adam Herschman) shows up at his doorstep, disturbing the comforting pattern Mud has created for himself. Dwayne introduces Mud to the power of lucid dreaming with the hopes that it will quell his nightmares. Thus Mud dreams himself into a road trip across America in a psychedelic Volkswagen. Finding himself experiencing a life without the usual comforts and meeting colourful characters, he starts discovering more than he initially bargained for.
