Actor Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood, Little Miss Sunshine) makes his directorial debut with "Wildlife," a 1960s-set tense family drama that stars Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal as an unhappy Montana couple whose marriage falls apart in front of their 14-year-old son's eyes.

Australian kid actor Ex Oxenbould, who previously co-starred in M. Night Shyamalan's grandparent horror thriller "The Visit," plays Gyllenhaal and Mulligan's son, Joe, who is forced to bear witness to their bitter break-up and possible infidelity.

The film, based on the acclaimed novel by Richard Ford, was adapted by Dano, who co-wrote the screenplay with his long-term girlfriend, actress and writer Zoe Kazan (The Big Sick, Ruby Sparks).

Co-starring Bill Camp (HBO's The Night Of) and Zoe Margaret Colletti (Annie Remake), "Wildlife" premiered to glowing reviews at Sundance back in January, and is currently slated to be released in theaters later in the year.

Acquired by IFC Films, "Wildlife" has received its first official trailer, watch it above.

synopsis:
14-year-old Joe is the only child of Jeanette and Jerry -- a housewife and a golf pro -- in a small town in 1960s Montana. Nearby, an uncontrolled forest fire rages close to the Canadian border, and when Jerry loses his job -- and his sense of purpose -- he decides to join the cause of fighting the fire, leaving his wife and son to fend for themselves.
