Hugh Grant is once again working with Oscar-nominated director Stephen Frears (Florence Foster Jenkins, The Queen, Philomena), only this time it's for a three-part British mini-series about one of the biggest scandals in British parliamentary history.

Grant portrays Jeremy Thorpe, a real-life British politician who in the 1970s was accused of conspiring to assassinate his secret gay lover (played here by James Bond's "Q" actor Ben Whishaw).

Written by acclaimed TV producer-writer Russell T. Davies (Doctor Who, Torchwood, Queer as Folk) and based on John Preston's best-selling historical book, the three-parter is chronicling the events that led to the highly publicized trial, which ultimately destroyed Thorpe's once promising political career.

Produced for the BBC, "A Very English Scandal" is being released in the U.S. through Amazon Prime and will start streaming Friday, June 29th. In the meantime, you can watch the newly-released U.S. trailer, above.

synopsis:
