A new international trailer has been released for "Searching," the much buzzed-about missing-person thriller, in which the action unfolds entirely on a computer screen.

John Cho, of "Star Trek" and "Harold & Kumar" fame, stars in the film as a widowed father who suddenly realizes his 16-year-old daughter (Michelle La) has gone missing.

After breaking into her laptop, Cho's character frantically searches for clues to his daughter's whereabouts, scrolling through hundreds of social media sites and Facebook and YouTube accounts as he comes to the painful realization that she wasn't as happy (or even as popular) as he thought she was. Which raises the question: did his daughter run away on her own accord or was she taken against her will?

After premiering to strong reviews at this year's Sundance Film Festival where it won the "Best of Next" award and the "Alfred P. Sloan" prize, "Searching" (formerly known as "Search") marks the auspicious debut of writer-director Aneesh Chaganty, a web filmmaker who created online commercials for Google.

Produced by Sev Ohanian, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Chaganty, "Searching" co-stars Debra Messing as a police detective who essentially only interacts with Cho's character through video phone call messages.

The film is also produced by action director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), who also produced a similar style of film, the computer-screen-shot horror thriller "Unfriended."

"Searching" will open in theaters August 3rd.
