This is the unbelievable-but-true story of how an African-American police detective (portrayed by "Ballers" star John David Washington) and his Jewish partner (Star Wars' Adam Driver) went undercover to infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan in the 1970s.

Check out the first official trailer for "BlacKkKlansman," the latest film from veteran filmmaker Spike Lee (Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X), which is also produced by Oscar-winner Jordan Peele (Get Out).

Based on Ron Stallworth's memoir "Black Klansman," the film recounts the incredible story of how Stallworth (Washington) became the first African-American detective to serve in the Colorado Springs Police Department in the early '70s, during which he came across a classified ad in the newspaper asking for people to join the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.

While on the telephone, Stallworth went on to pose as a white man and got to talk with Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke (played here by Topher Grace). But after he developed a certain amount of trust over the phone, Stallworth required the assistance of a white police officer. Enter: detective Flip Zimmerman (Driver), who posed as Stallworth's white racist alter ego after setting up a face-to-face meeting with Duke and his fellow Klansmen as they were in the middle of planning a local terrorist attack.

Co-starring Laura Harrier (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), Robert John Burke (2 Guns), Isiah Whitlock Jr. (The Wire), Damaris Lewis (The Rewrite), and Jasper Paakkonen (Vikings), "BlacKkKlansman" just premiered today at the Cannes Film Festival and will be hitting theaters August 10th.
