John Cho plays a frantic father who is forced to scroll through hundreds of social media sites and accounts to find his missing teenage daughter in the trailer for the upcoming computer-screen thriller "Searching."

The film, which marks the feature debut of writer-director Aneesh Chaganty (a former Google commercial director/creator), casts the "Star Trek" and "Harold & Kumar" star as a widowed father who discovers his 16-year-old daughter (Michelle La) has suddenly disappeared. Desperate and distressed, he finds himself stuck behind a computer screen as he breaks into his daughter's laptop and starts going through her online accounts and Facebook contacts. And while trying to find clues to where she was last seen before going missing, he slowly comes to the painful realization that his supposedly squeaky-clean daughter had kept a lot of secrets from him.

Co-starring Debra Messing as a police detective, the indie thriller, which premiered at Sundance this year to strong reviews and won a couple of Audience Awards, is told entirely on a computer screen, through FaceTime calls and Facebook and YouTube-like videos.

Produced by Sev Ohanian (who also co-wrote the screenplay) and also produced by action director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), "Searching" will be released on August 3rd.

synopsis:
After David Kim (John Cho)'s 16-year-old daughter goes missing, a local investigation is opened and a detective is assigned to the case. But 37 hours later and without a single lead, David decides to search the one place no one has looked yet, where all secrets are kept today: his daughter's laptop. In a hyper-modern thriller told via the technology devices we use every day to communicate, David must trace his daughter's digital footprints before she disappears forever.
