It was supposed to be an adventure of a lifetime. But it quickly turned into a nightmarish fight for survival.

Watch Shailene Woodley (Divergent, Big Little Lies) and Sam Claflin (Hunger Games, Me Before You) as they set off on a voyage across the ocean, only to sail directly into a terrifying storm in the new, final trailer for "Adrift."

Based on the best-selling memoir "Red Sky in Mourning," the ocean survival thriller tells the incredible true story of Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp (played here by Woodley and Claflin), a real-life couple who were sailing from Tahiti to San Diego when their boat was smashed up by a category 5 hurricane.

Tami wrote about her harrowing 41-day ordeal in her 2002 book for which the film is based. While Richard was badly incapacitated with broken ribs and a shattered leg, it was up to Tami to mend their severely damaged and capsized boat and somehow navigate it back to land.

It's directed by Icelandic-born filmmaker Baltasar Kormakur, who previously directed the true-life Mount Everest climbing disaster movie "Everest" and the Denzel Washington-Mark Wahlberg crime flick "2 Guns."

"Adrift" opens June 1st.

synopsis:
Starring Shailene Woodley (Fault in Our Stars, Divergent films) and Sam Claflin (Me Before You, The Hunger Games films), ADRIFT is based on the inspiring true story of two free spirits whose chance encounter leads them first to love, and then to the adventure of a lifetime.

As the two avid sailors set out on a journey across the ocean, Tami Oldham (Woodley) and Richard Sharp (Claflin) couldn't anticipate they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. In the aftermath of the storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved.

ADRIFT is the unforgettable story about the resilience of the human spirit and the transcendent power of love.
