Oscar-winning documentarian and acclaimed filmmaker Kevin Macdonald (One Day in September, The Last King of Scotland) has been given authorized access to rare archival footage and photos of the late, great Grammy-winning singer Whitney Houston for an upcoming documentary about the legendary singer's life and career.

The film, which is the first ever documentary to be approved by the Whitney Houston Estate, will take a comprehensive and intimate look at the superstar's triumphs and struggles during her 30-year career in the entertainment business.

"There was Lena Horne. There's Dionne Warwick. But if the mantle is to pass to somebody, who's got an incredible range of talent with guts and soul, it would be Whitney Houston, in my opinion," says famed music mogul Clive Davis in the first official teaser trailer for Macdonald's upcoming biographical documentary "Whitney."

Featuring rarely seen footage of Whitney's live performances and studio recordings, as well as interviews with some of Whitney's closest family members, the film is certainly a must-see for Whitney fans -- or for anyone who considers themselves fans of great music.

"Whitney" is scheduled to hit theaters July 6th.
