Joaquin Phoenix struggles with sobriety in the new official trailer for "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot," the latest film from two-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk).

Based on the incredible life story of Portland cartoonist and reformed alcoholic John Callahan (Phoenix), who at age 21 became a quadriplegic after getting in a horrible car accident with a drinking buddy (played by Jack Black), the 1970s-set drama chronicles John's efforts to get sober, recounting his early years in an alcohol rehab program, where he also first discovered his passion for drawing.

The film, which premiered back in January at Sundance, features a strong supporting cast that includes the likes of Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara, Udo Kier, Carrie Brownstein, and Arkansas-born punk rock singer Beth Ditto in her first acting role.

Acquired by Amazon Studio, "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot" will be released in select theaters on July 13th.

synopsis:
After Portland slacker John Callahan (Joaquin Phoenix) nearly loses his life in a car accident, the last thing he intends to do is give up drinking. But when he reluctantly enters treatment -- with encouragement from his girlfriend (Rooney Mara) and a charismatic sponsor (Jonah Hill) -- Callahan discovers a gift for drawing edgy, irreverent newspaper cartoons that develop a national following and grant him a new lease on life. Based on a true story, this poignant, insightful and often funny drama about the healing power of art is adapted from Callahan's autobiography.
