Smurf (Ellen Barkin) may be behind bars but she is still calling the shots.

Check out the new official trailer for the upcoming third season of TNT's hit crime thriller "Animal Kingdom," which features Emmy-winner Ellen Barkin as Janine "Smurf" Cody, the menacing matriarch of a Southern Californian family of thieves.

English actor Finn Cole (Peaky Blinders) returns as Smurf's orphaned grandson 'J' Cody, who is now the newly appointed de facto leader of the family business, despite the fact that his three older and much tougher uncles (played by Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, and Jake Weary) don't trust him at all.

Actor/comedian Denis Leary (FX's Rescue Me, The Amazing Spider-Man) is joining the cast of this new season, which begins with Smurf in jail and the Cody family losing their criminal reputation.

Acclaimed Native American actor Gil Birmingham (Wind River, Hell or High Water) also joins the series, playing a police investigator trying to bring down the elusive Cody clan for good.

Executive produced by Jonathan Lisco (Southland) and Emmy-winner John Wells (The West Wing, ER) and loosely based on David Michod's 2010 Australian true-crime thriller of the same name, "Animal Kingdom: Season 3" is premiering Tuesday, May 29th on TNT.

The Codys are back, and the ties that bind them are about to be stretched to the limit when TNT's hit Animal Kingdom returns for its third season. One of last summer's hottest dramas, the series following a Southern California crime family stars Ellen Barkin as the matriarch of the Cody clan, Finn Cole as her second in command and Shawn Hatosy as her volatile, mentally unstable eldest son.
