"Mad Max: Fury Road" star Tom Hardy "embraces his inner anti-hero" in the new full-length trailer for "Venom," the Marvel-based horror-action movie which is loosely set in the same world as "Spider-Man: Homecoming," although not officially within the Marvel cinematic universe.

Also starring Michelle Williams as Hardy's love interest, the San Francisco-set thriller sees Hardy as Eddie Brock, an intrepid street reporter investigating the controversial scientific dealings of a shady business tycoon named Carlton Drake (played by Rogue One's Riz Ahmed), who is also better known in the comic books as genetically-mutated super-villain Homo Arachnis.

When Eddie discovers Drake's "Life Foundation" has been administering deadly science experiments, he finds himself acting on an insider's tip, which leads him to an unexpected encounter with a "symbiote," a powerful sentient alien life-force that has now bonded with Eddie's inner mind and physical body. After agreeing to only "hurt bad people," they merge together into a black viper-like gooey creature, calling themselves, "Venom."

Co-starring Jenny Slate, and directed by "Zombieland" helmer Ruben Fleischer, "Venom" is due to hit theaters on October 5th.

One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award-nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.
