It's the first Danish series for Netflix, and the streaming company has just released the official trailer.

Watch a full-length preview for "The Rain," a post-apocalyptic thriller series about a group of young Danish survivors seeking to rejoin society six years after deadly contaminated rain storms nearly killed off the entire population of Scandinavia.

Starring Alba August, Lucas Lynggaard Tonnesen, and Mikkel Boe Folsgaard, the series will run for eight episodes, and generally center around a teenage boy and his older teenage sister who have decided to branch out into the world after spending several years living in an underground bunker.

Created by Danish television writers Jannik Tai Mosholt (Borgen, Rita), Esben Toft Jacobsen (The Great Bear, Beyond Beyond) and Christian Potalivo (Dicte, The New Tenants), "The Rain" is scheduled to premiere next week on May 4th, streaming globally on Netflix.

synopsis:
The world as we know it has ended. Six years after a brutal virus carried by the rain wipes out nearly the entire population of Scandinavia, two Danish siblings emerge from the safety of their bunker to find all remnants of civilisation gone. Soon they join a group of other young survivors and together they set out on a danger-filled quest through abandoned Scandinavia, searching for any sign of life.

Set free from their collective past and societal rules, the group has the freedom to be who they want to be. In their struggle for survival, they discover that even in a post-apocalyptic world there's still love, jealousy, and many of the coming of age dilemmas they thought they'd left behind with the disappearance of the world they once knew.

Who will you be when the rain comes?
