Five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams is just the latest A-list film star to have found a new home at HBO, starring in an upcoming limited mystery thriller series, for which an official teaser trailer has been released.

In "Sharp Objects," which is based on the 2006 debut novel by best-selling "Gone Girl" author Gillian Flynn, Adams plays an emotionally-scarred crime journalist who is forced to confront her traumatic past when she returns to her small-town home to report on a local murder case.

Executive produced by Jason Blum, of Blumhouse Productions (the studio behind the horror hits "Get Out" "The Purge" and "Split," the eight-episode series is directed by acclaimed helmer Jean-Marc Vallee, of "Dallas Buyers Club" and who also directed the entire first season of the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning hit HBO drama "Big Little Lies."

Developed into a series by Emmy-nominated producer/writer Marti Noxon (UnREAL, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), the HBO thriller features a strong supporting cast that includes Patricia Clarkson, Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins, and Matt Craven.

Also executive produced by Adams and Flynn, "Sharp Objects" will premiere sometime in July on HBO.
