Rupert Everett (My Best Friend's Wedding, An Ideal Husband, Shakespeare in Love) portrays exiled British poet/writer Oscar Wilde in the trailer for the upcoming biopic "The Happy Prince," which marks Everett's directorial debut.

The film, which is also written by Everett, recounts Oscar Wilde's final years as "a ruined man" living in exile in France.

Though he was once considered as one of London's most famous and celebrated playwrights and poets, Wilde was publicly shamed after being embroiled in a scandalous trial and conviction that exposed his homosexuality. After serving several years in prison for sodomy and indecency, Wilde was forced to flee to France where he spent the last remaining years of his life in impoverished exile.

Co-starring Colin Morgan as Wilde's secret gay lover and Emily Watson as Wilde's estranged wife, "The Happy Prince" will be released internationally in June before arriving in the States at a later date.
