Melissa McCarthy is getting into the school spirit as she heads back to college in a new trailer for the upcoming mother-daughter comedy "Life of the Party."

Once again teaming up with her writing partner and filmmaker husband Ben Falcone (The Boss, Tammy), the film sees McCarthy as a stay-at-home, 40-something-year-old housewife who, after being emotionally drained by a bitter divorce, has decided to finish her college education by going to the same university her daughter is attending.

With a familiar concept akin to Rodney Dangerfield's '80s classic "Back to School," the movie finds McCarthy's character transforming into a boy-hungry party animal, much to the rolling-eyed annoyance of her daughter (played here by Molly Gordon, from TV's "Animal Kingdom").

Co-starring Bridesmaids and SNL alum Maya Rudolph and Community's Gillian Jacobs, with Veep's Matt Walsh and Modern Family's Julie Bowen playing McCarthy's cheating ex-husband and his mistress-turned-new wife, "Life of the Party" is hitting theaters May 11th.

synopsis:
When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime dedicated housewife Deanna turns regret into re-set by going back to college -- landing in the same class and school as her daughter, who's not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna -- now Dee Rock -- embraces freedom, fun, and frat boys on her own terms, finding her true self in a senior year no one ever expected.
