Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire, Trainspotting) plays an unhappy suburban housewife and mother who finds a new lease on life when she discovers she has a knack for putting together jigsaw puzzles in the trailer for "Puzzle."
While looking for something to break up the monotony of married life, Agnes, a timid working-class woman (played by Emmy-winner Macdonald), takes up the hobby of solving 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles. After developing a strong passion for her new leisure activity, Agnes decides to challenge herself by teaming up with a puzzle partner (played by veteran Indian actor Irrfan Khan, of "Jurassic World" and "Life of Pi") to compete in a local tournament. However, things come to a head when Agnes' unsupportive, blue-collar husband (played by 13 Hours' David Denman) suddenly demands her to quit her silly puzzle hobby as he feels it's getting in the way of her marital duties.
Based on the 2010 Argentinian film "The Puzzle" by Natalia Smirnoff and written by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Oren Moverman (The Messenger, The Dinner) and Polly Mann, "Puzzle" is directed by veteran film producer Marc Turtletaub, whose producing credits include "Little Miss Sunshine," "Loving," and "Safety Not Guaranteed."
After receiving strong reviews at this year's Sundance Film Festival, "Puzzle" is opening theatrically in Los Angeles and New York on July 13th, with other cities to follow.
