Four amateur thieves try to pull off one of the most audacious art heists in US history in the newly-released trailer for the upcoming true-crime thriller "American Animals."

Starring Evan Peters (from the X-Men Films, TV's American Horror Story), Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Killing of a Sacred Deer), Blake Jenner (Everybody Wants Some, TV's Glee), and Jared Abrahamson (TV's Travelers), the film is based on a real-life robbery in which four college friends in Lexington, Kentucky, despite a lack of criminal know-how, attempted to steal a couple of priceless books -- the original copies of painter John James Audubon's 1830s illustration collection "Birds of America" and Charles Darwin's scientific publication "On the Origin of Species" -- from a highly secured library at Transylvania University.

The film, which premiered earlier this year to strong reviews at Sundance, is written and directed by acclaimed British documentary filmmaker Bart Layton, who previously made the stranger-than-fiction impersonator doc "The Imposter."

Co-starring Emmy-winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid's Tale) as Transylvania University's archivist, "American Animals" is hitting theaters on June 1st.

synopsis:
The extraordinary and thrilling true story of four friends (Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner, and Jared Abrahamson) living an ordinary existence who brazenly attempt to execute one of the most audacious art heists in US history.
