Jim Carrey goes from Pet Detective to a True Detective in his latest crime drama "Dark Crimes." Check out the film's new trailer, where Carrey is no longer talking out of his ass but speaking in a Polish-accent to portray a homicide detective on the hunt for a cold-blooded killer.

In the film, Carrey plays a Polish detective named Tadek who is investigating the murder of a businessman when he discovers an undisclosed piece of evidence that is identical to a character's murder in a popular published novel by a man named Kozlow (played by Marton Csokas).

Based on David Grann’s New Yorker article from 2008, telling the true story of a cold case which was re-opened when some unrevealed facts were discovered to the murder in a newly published novel that were far too similar to ignore.

Directed by Alexandros Avranas (Miss Violence) and written by Jeremy Brock (The Last King of Scotland), the film will be available on April 19th exclusively on DirecTV, with a limited theatrical release to follow on May 11th.

A hard-boiled detective becomes suspicious of an author when the incidents described in his hit novel resemble the inner-workings of an unsolved murder.
