HBO has released the official trailer for "Fahrenheit 451," the eagerly-anticipated science-fiction thriller starring Black Panther's Michael B. Jordan and The Shape of Water's Michael Shannon.

Based on celebrated sci-fi writer Ray Bradbury's groundbreaking 1953 novel of the same name, the HBO original movie takes place in a dystopian future where an authoritarian American government has banned books in an effort to suppress dissenting ideas.

Jordan plays Guy Montag, a young firefighter whose job is to hunt down and destroy the last remaining physical books in the country. Meanwhile, Shannon plays the intimidating Captain Beatty, who begins to suspect that Jordan's character might not be entirely sold on the idea of burning books.

"Do you want to know what's inside these books?" asks Shannon's Beatty while holding up a copy of short stories by Franz Kafka. "Insanity."

Directed and adapted for the screen by acclaimed indie filmmaker Ramin Bahrani (99 Homes, Man Push Cart), and co-starring Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, Star Trek: Beyond) and Martin Donovan (Ant-Man), "Fahrenheit 451" will debut on HBO beginning May 19th.

Starring Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon, Fahrenheit 451 is based on Ray Bradbury's classic novel. In a future where the media is an opiate, history is rewritten and "firemen" burn books, Jordan plays Montag, a young fireman who struggles with his role as law enforcer. Battling his mentor, fire captain Beatty, played by Shannon, he forsakes his world in an effort to regain his humanity.
