Netflix has released a brand-new teaser trailer for "Nightflyers," the forthcoming sci-fi horror series based on the 1980 novella by "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin, who serves as an executive producer along with TV writer-producer Daniel Cerone (Dexter, Constantine) and current showrunner Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train).

A joint production between the streaming company and the SYFY network, the suspense thriller, which has been described as "Psycho in Space," takes place in the future and follows a group of eight scientists and a telepathic explorer as they embark on a dangerous space mission, where they eventually find themselves encountering a mysterious alien species.

The cast includes Gretchen Mol (HBO's Boardwalk Empire), Jodie Turner-Smith (TNT's The Last Ship), Brian F. O'Byrne (TV's Manhunt: Unabomber), Eoin Macken (TV's The Night Shift), David Ajala (TV's Falling Water), Maya Eshet (MTV's Teen Wolf), Sam Strike (TV's EastEnders), and Angus Sampson (from the "Insidious" film series).

Slated for ten episodes, "Nightflyers" will be released later in the fall. And it's due to air on the SYFY channel in the U.S., but will stream internationally on Netflix.

Based on George R. R. Martin's novella and set in the future on the eve of Earth's destruction, a crew of explorers journey on the most advanced ship in the galaxy, The Nightflyer, to intercept an alien spacecraft. One that might just hold the key to their survival.
