Teenage kids with superpowers are being hunted down by an overly aggressive government in the first trailer for "The Darkest Minds."

Based on the first installment in Alexandra Bracken's best-selling YA novel series and hailing from the producers of "Stranger Things" and "Arrival," the upcoming action thriller stars Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games, Everything Everything) as a 16-year-old girl named Ruby, who years ago developed powerful superhuman abilities after surviving a mysterious virus that had nearly wiped out the entire children population.

Now considered as a national security threat, Ruby and other kids like her have been placed in brutal rehabilitation camps. But when Ruby manages to escape, she joins a group of teenage runaways who eventually form a large-scale rebellion.

Co-starring This is Us' Mandy Moore, Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie, Harris Dickinson, and Skylan Brooks, "The Darkest Minds" is the live-action debut from acclaimed animation director Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2 and 3).

Written for the screen by TV writer-producer Chad Hodge (Wayward Pines, Good Behavior) and produced by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) and Dan Levine (Arrival), "The Darkest Minds" is slated for an August 3rd theatrical release.

synopsis:
When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon this newfound family realizes that, in a world in which the adults in power have betrayed them, running is not enough and they must wage a resistance, using their collective power to take back control of their future.
