AMC's martial arts dystopian thriller "Into the Badlands" is returning next month with its third season, and the network has just unveiled an official trailer.

American-born Hong Kong action star Daniel Wu (Tomb Raider) is back as badass assassin "Sunny," who once fought for his "baron" but is now only focused on escaping a civil war to protect his newborn son, until a mysterious illness drags him back into the violent conflict.

Also returning to the action series is Emily Beecham as Sunny's deadly rival "The Widow"; comedian Nick Frost as Sunny's unlikely comrade Bajie; Aramis Knight as Sunny's newly kidnapped apprentice "M.K." and Ally Ioannides as the Widow's young henchgirl Tilda with Orla Brady, Sarah Bolger, Stephen Lang, and Sherman Augustus also back for Season 3.

Meanwhile, new additions to the cast include Babou Ceesay (Guerrilla), Lorraine Toussaint (Orange Is the New Black), Ella-Rae Smith (The Commuter), Dean-Charles Chapman (Game of Thrones), and Lewis Tan (Iron Fist).

Created by "Smallville" showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and executive produced by Hong Kong action filmmaker Stephen Fung along side Daniel Wu, "Into the Badlands: Season 3" is slated to premiere on Sunday, April 22nd on AMC.

synopsis:
Centuries from now, a feudal society has emerged in the wake of civilization's destruction. This area is now called the Badlands and is uneasily divided among seven rival Barons. Each Baron enforces their iron rule with the aid of loyal armies of trained assassins known as Clippers. The most lethal of the Badlands' Clippers is Sunny (Daniel Wu).

After losing the love of his life, Veil, in Season 2, Sunny's only goal is protecting his infant son, Henry. Sunny retreats from the Badlands, but when Henry contracts a mysterious illness, Sunny has no choice but to return to seek a cure -- a mission that leads Sunny into the middle of two wars for the Badlands.
