A brand-new international trailer has been released for "Loving Pablo" (also known internationally as simply "Escobar"), the upcoming Pablo Escobar thriller that stars Oscar-winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men) as the infamous Colombian drug lord, who, in the 1980s and early '90s, was known as "the King of Cocaine."
Co-starring Bardem's real-life wife and fellow Oscar-winner Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, The Assassination of Gianni Versace), the English-language film is chronicling the events surrounding Pablo's secret love affair with popular Colombian television anchorwoman and noted socialite, Virginia Vallejo (played by Cruz), who would later cooperate with the D.E.A. and testify at trial.
Based on Vallejo's 2007 memoir "Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar," the film is written and directed by acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Fernando Leon de Aranoa, who previously made the darkly-comic Balkan War film "A Perfect Day," which starred Benicio Del Toro and Tim Robbins.
Co-starring Peter Sarsgaard as an American DEA agent, "Loving Pablo" had opened in Spain earlier this month. It will roll out internationally throughout April and May. As of yet, there's no official U.S. release date.
