The ever-expanding legacy of Superman gets fully examined in a new 22-minute-long making-of special for the upcoming Syfy series "Krypton."

Celebrating the 80th anniversary of Superman, the behind-the-scenes preview, which recently aired on the network, offers a detailed look at the history of the beloved "Man of Steel" superhero, as well as how the new show will interpret their own version of his family history.

Taking place nearly two generations before Superman arrived on Earth, the series is focusing on the early years of his grandfather, Seg-El, played by up-and-coming British actor Cameron Cuffe. And as one might guess from the title, the drama is set entirely on the planet of Krypton, giving television viewers a unique peek into the Kryptonian social and political structure -- and at a time when the House of El has been stripped of all rights and privileges, for which Superman's family symbol has become a mark of shame.

"Even though Krypton's very much a story about the House of El and the El lineage," says the show's creator and executive producer David S. Goyer. "It's also a story about the House of Zod and the Zod lineage."

English actress Georgina Campbell (Black Mirror: Hang the DJ, Broadchurch) co-stars as military officer Lyta Zod, presumably General Zod's grandmother, who seems to have a Romeo-and-Juliet-like love affair with Seg-El. Which should make things interesting, to say the least.

Also to shake things up, the Syfy series will introduce time-traveling superhero Adam Strange (played by Shaun Sipos) who comes from present-day Earth to warn Seg-El about a great, powerful enemy who wants to destroy Krypton. His name is Brainiac.

Also executive produced by Cameron Welsh (Ash vs Evil Dead, Constantine), "Krypton" is premiering Wednesday, March 21st on Syfy.
