Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin sail into troubled waters in the first trailer for the upcoming sea-stranded survival drama "Adrift."

Based on a remarkable true story, the "Divergent" and "Hunger Games" stars play real-life couple Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp, who were sailing from Tahiti to San Diego when their boat was caught in the middle of a category five hurricane, which became one of the largest storms in the Pacific.

Battered and bruised, Tami was left to fend for herself when Richard became incapacitated with broken ribs and a shattered leg. Through sheer willpower, Tami had to mend a severely damaged boat by herself and navigate it through some of the most turbulent and challenging waters, all while not knowing if she was sailing to land or to her imminent death.

Based on Tami Oldham's best-selling memoir "Red Sky in Mourning," the movie is directed by acclaimed Icelandic filmmaker Baltasar Kormakur, whose American films include the true-life Mount Everest disaster film "Everest" and the crime thrillers "2 Guns" and "Contraband."

"Adrift" is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on June 1st.

synopsis:
Starring Shailene Woodley (Fault in Our Stars, Divergent films) and Sam Claflin (Me Before You, The Hunger Games films), ADRIFT is based on the inspiring true story of two free spirits whose chance encounter leads them first to love, and then to the adventure of a lifetime.

As the two avid sailors set out on a journey across the ocean, Tami Oldham (Woodley) and Richard Sharp (Claflin) couldn't anticipate they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. In the aftermath of the storm, Tami awakens to find Richard badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved.

ADRIFT is the unforgettable story about the resilience of the human spirit and the transcendent power of love.
