Joaquin Phoenix plays an emotionally scarred vigilante who is hired to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a New York senator in a couple of new TV spots for the gritty thriller "You Were Never Really Here."

Based on the novel by author and television writer Jonathan Ames (Bored to Death, Blunt Talk), the film casts Phoenix, in what seems to be a fully committed performance, as Joe, an ex-FBI agent/war veteran who, while struggling to cope with his painful and tragic past, is hired to retrieve a senator's young abducted daughter (newcomer Ekaterina Samsonov) from sex traffickers. Of course, Joe later discovers the sex trafficking ring is part of a sinister conspiracy involving the local police and possibly also the local government.

Acclaimed Scottish-born filmmaker Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin, Morvern Callar) directs the vigilante thriller, which premiered to rave reviews last year at the Cannes Film Festival where Phoenix took home the Best Actor prize.

Also, adapted for the screen by Ramsay, "You Were Never Really Here" will be released in select U.S. theaters on April 6th, through Amazon Studios.
