Beast — International Trailer

Check out the first international trailer for the upcoming British psychological-mystery thriller "Beast," which has been described by Variety as a "warped adult fairy tale."

Featuring what appears to be a breakout performance by Irish actress Jessie Buckley, from the BBC miniseries "War and Peace" and the Tom Hardy-starring period series "Taboo," the film takes place in the 1960s and on the British Channel island of Jersey.

Loosely inspired by a true-life notorious criminal case known as "the Beast of Jersey" in which a mysterious sex offender had terrorized the local Jersey community throughout the 60s, the movie centers on a young sheltered woman (played by Buckley) from a well-to-do British family who, against her mother's wishes, embarks on a forbidden love affair with a mysterious outsider who is later suspected as being a murderer.

English actor/musician Johnny Flynn, best known for portraying a young Albert Einstein in the acclaimed biographical series "Genius" and who also co-starred in the hit British rom-com series "Lovesick" (aka Scrotal Recall), plays Buckley's creepy boyfriend, while veteran English actress Geraldine James (Sherlock Holmes, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) is Buckley's domineering mother.

Marking the auspicious debut of writer-director Michael Pearce, "Beast," which earned strong reviews at last year's TIFF and this year's Sundance, will open in the U.K. on May 11th with an U.S. release to follow.

BEAST is a love story trapped within a horror film -- a dark fairytale about an emotionally isolated woman who comes under the spotlight of an island community when she falls in love with a man who is suspected of a series of brutal murders.
