Acclaimed English actress Maxine Peake, who recently starred in the black-and-white "Metalhead" episode of Netflix's "Black Mirror," delivers what appears to be an impressively assured performance as a struggling 1970s club comedienne in the new international trailer for "Funny Cow."
The British drama, which is directed by veteran British TV and film director Adrian Shergold (Pierrepoint: The Last Hangman) and written by English actor/writer Tony Pitts (who also co-stars), tells the life story of a fictional stand-up comedian, played by Peake.
Set against the backdrop of 1970s and '80s comedy club circuit of Northern England, the film offers a portrait of a strong and determined woman fighting to make it on her own in the male-dominated world of comedy.
Co-starring Alun Armstrong (Braveheart, Sleepy Hollow), Paddy Considine (The Death of Stalin, Pride), and Stephen Graham (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), "Funny Cow" will be released in the U.K. on April 20th.
