"Lady Bird" Oscar-nominee Saoirse Ronan plays a young English woman who is having serious second thoughts about her marriage in the trailer for the 60s-era British drama "On Chesil Beach."

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by award-winning "Atonement" author Ian McEwan, the film stars Ronan and newcomer Billy Howle (Dunkirk) as Florence and Edward, a young British couple in love during the early 1960s.

After agreeing to marry Edward, Florence finds herself facing commitment and intimacy issues as she becomes increasingly uncomfortable with societal expectations of what a wife should be and what a wife supposed to do, particularly on her wedding night.

Acclaimed British theatre director Dominic Cooke, who helmed several episodes of the Shakespeare miniseries "The Hollow Crown," directs.

Co-starring Emily Watson, Samuel West, Anne-Marie Duff, and Adrian Scarborough, "On Chesil Beach" is hitting theaters on May 18th.

synopsis:
Adapted by Ian McEwan from his bestselling novel, the drama centers on a young couple of drastically different backgrounds in the summer of 1962. Following the pair through their idyllic courtship, the film explores sex and the societal pressure that can accompany physical intimacy, leading to an awkward and fateful wedding night.
