A nearly unrecognizable Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland, Black Panther) is seen here portraying famed South African cleric and anti-apartheid icon Desmond Tutu in the trailer for "The Forgiven," which also stars Eric Bana (Munich, Chopper) as real-life South African murderer Piet Bromfield.

Based on true events, the drama-thriller is set during the tense early years of post-apartheid South Africa and follows Archbishop Tutu (Whitaker) as he investigates the unsolved murder of a young African girl, which leads him to having a series of face-to-face interviews with a notorious racist killer (Bana) who is serving time in a maximum security prison.

Based on the play "The Archbishop and the Antichrist" by Michael Ashton, the film is directed by two-time Oscar-nominated helmer Roland Joffe, of "The Killing Fields" and "The Mission" fame.

"The Forgiven" will open in New York and Los Angeles on March 9th before expanding to other cities the following week. It will also arrive on VOD and Digital HD on March 16th.
