Would you like to have some giant robot carnage to be injected into your life right now? Well, look no further than this new pulse-pounding IMAX trailer for the upcoming sci-fi action sequel "Pacific Rim: Uprising."
The film, a follow-up to 2013's Guillermo del Toro-directed kaiju action spectacle which was set in an apocalyptic world where human-piloted giant robots try to save humanity from gargantuan sea creatures, seems to follow the general rule of sequels these days -- do everything that happened in the original again, but just make it twice as big and twice as exhilarating.
John Boyega (Detroit, Star Wars) is taking the lead on this one. He plays Jake Pentecost, the estranged son of Commander Stacker Pentecost, Idris Elba's character from the original movie who sacrificed himself to save the world. Jake is an ex-Jaeger pilot who was living like a worthless wino for the past several years, but has returned to the Jaeger program for a shot at redemption, especially since the kaiju monsters have come back in a very big, big way.
As the war rages around him, Jake finds himself leading a new and younger generation of Jaeger fighters, all of whom have pledged their lives to defending the planet against the kaiju army, which have evolved into more powerful and smarter opponents.
Scott Eastwood (The Fate of the Furious) co-stars as Jake's Jaeger partner while newcomer Cailee Spaeny plays one of the youngest and brightest pilots in the Jaeger program. Charlie Day and Burn Gorman return as Dr. Newton Geiszler and Dr. Hermann Gottlieb, while Rinko Kikuchi is also back as Jake's adoptive sister, Mako Mori, a Jaeger hero who now runs the Jaeger army.
Co-written and directed by Steven S. DeKnight, the former showrunner of Marvel's "Daredevil" and Starz's "Spartacus" (this is his feature directorial debut), "Pacific Rim: Uprising" is hitting theaters March 23rd.
