With notable turns in the cult horror films "Darling," "Jug Face," and "The Mind's Eye," actress Lauren Ashley Carter has carved out quite a niche for herself. She continues to dig further into genre fare with the upcoming science fiction-tinged mind-bending thriller "The Imitation Girl."

In it, Carter plays a wandering space alien who lands in the middle of the New Mexico desert and assumes the form of a human woman. Meanwhile, in New York City, the film turns its focus on the alien's identical counterpart (also played by Carter), who is a failed concert pianist working as an adult film star.

An exploration of two lost souls, the film follows both women as their paths eventually cross. "I'm been looking for you ... for your face," says the imitating alien to her human duplicate in the newly released trailer, watch it above.

From writer-director Natasha Kermani (Shattered), "The Imitation Girl" spent most of last year running on the festival circuit, which included screenings at FrightFest and the Cinequest Film Festival.

The off-kilter thriller, which is being distributed by newly minted label Dread Central Presents (the horror arm of Epic Pictures), is now slated for a VOD release on March 16th and a limited theatrical release on April 20th.
