A small suburban community angrily erupts into a full-blown frenzy in the first teaser trailer for "Assassination Nation," a darkly satirical, high school girls-led thriller that's written and directed by Sam Levinson.

The Sundance-selected film, which is currently premiering in the Midnight section, stars Odessa Young (The Daughter), Suki Waterhouse (The Bad Batch), Hari Nef (Transparent), and R&B singer ABRA as four teenage girls whose lives are upended when a mysterious computer hacker suddenly publishes extremely sensitive personal information from people's online accounts, unleashing a tidal wave of anger and paranoia within the town.

The film marks a return to Sundance for writer-director Levinson, whose 2011 debut film "Another Happy Day" not only debuted at Park City, but also took home the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award that year. Levinson is also credited for co-writing the recent HBO Bernie Madoff movie "The Wizard of Lies."

Co-starring Bill Skarsgard, Bella Thorne, Anika Noni Rose, Colman Domingo, and Joel McHale and produced by David S. Goyer, "Assassination Nation" is currently seeking a distribution deal at Sundance.

synopsis:
High school senior Lily and her crew of besties live in a haze of texts, posts, selfies, and chats -- just like the rest of us. So when a provocateur starts posting details from the private digital lives of everyone in their small town of Salem, the result is a Category 5 shitstorm. We're talking browser histories, direct messages, illegal downloads, secret text chains, and way, way, way worse. People get angry. Like, "rampaging murder posse" angry. And Lily finds herself right in the middle. (via Sundance Film Festival)
