Legendary and highly prolific Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike has more than 100 films under his belt. But the most popular among his movies is perhaps his most dementedly violent and most egregiously perverted. And wouldn't you know it -- it just got digitally remastered in stunning 4K resolution!

Check out a brand-new trailer for the 4K restoration release of Miike's gonzo masterpiece "Ichi The Killer," which asks what happens when a sadistic, sadomasochistic yakuza enforcer (Tadanobu Asano) crosses paths with a mentally unhinged costumed assassin (Shin'ya Tsukamoto). The answer: a lot of blood and bodily fluids being spilled.

Called "one of the world's greatest living directors" by none other than Quentin Tarantino, the 57-year-old Miike, since directing 2001's "Ichi," has become an influential cult icon in the States, mainly known for his extreme Asian horror classics such as "Audition," "Gozu," and "Visitor Q." Although Miike's most recent samurai films (Blade of the Immortal, 13 Assassins, Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai) have earned him some of the best reviews of his career.

Based on the manga series of the same name by Japanese comic book artist Hideo Yamamoto, "Ichi The Killer" gained a controversial reputation from the get-go. Initially banned in several countries due to the films' graphic depiction of violence and sadomasochistic themes, "Ichi" ultimately earned a cult following as a gross-out underground horror oddity.

The director's cut of the cult horror thriller has been digitally restored in 4K and is being re-released in the States via Well Go USA Entertainment, rolling out in select theaters starting this weekend in Los Angeles with more locations in the coming weeks.

Well Go USA is also planning to release a special Blu-ray edition of the movie on March 20th. So be on the lookout for that.
