Acclaimed two-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk) is stopping by the Sundance Film Festival this weekend to premiere his latest movie, which seems to be featuring another fine performance by Joaquin Phoenix.

Check out the very first trailer for Van Sant's new 1970s-set drama "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot," which tells the incredible true story of Portland-based cartoonist John Callahan (Phoenix), who at age 21 became a quadriplegic after getting in a horrible car accident with a drinking buddy.

The film, which also stars Jonah Hill, Rooney Mara, and Jack Black, is recounting John's life just as he had entered an alcohol rehab program, which is the same time he first discovered his love for drawing.

Also, written by Van Sant and co-starring singers/musicians Beth Ditto, Kim Gordon, and Carrie Brownstein, and veteran character actor Udo Kier, "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot" will be released in select theaters on July 11 (via Amazon Studio), following its Park City debut.

synopsis:
After Portland slacker John Callahan (Joaquin Phoenix) nearly loses his life in a car accident, the last thing he intends to do is give up drinking. But when he reluctantly enters treatment – with encouragement from his girlfriend (Rooney Mara) and a charismatic sponsor (Jonah Hill) -- Callahan discovers a gift for drawing edgy, irreverent newspaper cartoons that develop a national following and grant him a new lease on life. Based on a true story, this poignant, insightful and often funny drama about the healing power of art is adapted from Callahan's autobiography.
