French director Xavier Gens, whose credits include the cult sci-fi horror "The Divide" and the French horror "Frontier(s)" and who also helmed the videogame-based action movie "Hitman," is back with another genre-bending thriller about humanoid sea creatures invading a lighthouse.

"Cold Skin" stars English actor David Oakes (TV's The White Queen) as an Irish WWI soldier. When he accepts a job to work for 12 months in total solitude as a weather official on a faraway island, he is sent near the Antarctic Circle to replace a lighthouse keeper. But soon after he arrives, he makes a shocking discovery -- the island is frequently invaded by "demons from Atlantis."

Based on the 2002 debut novel by best-selling Catalan author Albert Sanchez Pinol, the film also stars Irish actor Ray Stevenson (TV's Black Sails, Punisher: War Zone) and Spanish actress Aura Garrido (Stockholm).

"Cold Skin," which doesn't have an official U.S. release date, as of yet, apparently already opened in Spain back in October, and is going to be released in more international markets in the next couple of months. In the meantime, you can check out a newly-released international trailer, above.

synopsis:
Based on the novel "La Pell Freda" by Albert Sanchez Pinol. On the edge of the Antartic Circle, in the years after World War I, a steam ship approaches a desolate island far from all shipping lanes. On board is a young man, on his way to assume the lonely post of weather observer, to live in solitude for a year at the end of the world. But on shore he finds no trace of the man whom he has been sent to replace, just a deranged castaway who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name. The rest is forest, a deserted cabin, rocks, silence, and the surrounding sea. And then the night begins to fall...
