A pair of orphans try to break a horrifying family curse in the trailer for the Gothic ghost story "The Lodgers," which is written by Irish songwriter/poet David Turpin and directed by horror filmmaker Brian O'Malley (director of the cult horror "Let Us Prey").

Starring Bill Milner (X-Men: First Class, Son of Rambow) and Charlotte Vega (American Assassin, Another Me) and co-starring "Game of Thrones" alums David Bradley and Eugene Simon, the atmospheric supernatural thriller takes place in early 20th century rural Ireland, and is set largely inside a dilapidated mansion where twin brother and sister Edwards (Milner) and Rachel (Vega) have been residing since their parents' tragic suicide deaths.

But due to malicious spirit entities that seem to control their every move, Edwards and Rachel are to never leave the haunted property and must abide by certain rules that have kept them isolated. However, when Rachel befriends a local soldier (Simon), she musters up the courage to attempt an escape, much to the encouragement of her twin brother who appears to have completely surrendered to his phantom jailers.

"The Lodgers," which premiered back in September at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, is getting a stateside release next month, hitting theaters and iTunes on February 23rd.

synopsis:
The tale of haunted, soon-to-be impoverished, twin orphans Rachel (Charlotte Vega) and Edward (Bill Milner) who are trapped in their crumbling mansion by an ancient family curse. Hammered home by their rules derived from their childhood nursery rhyme, the twins insists that they must never let any outsiders into the house, must be locked up in their rooms before midnight and never be separated.

Breaking the rules would let the wrath of the spectral "lodgers" who prowl the corridors at night, keeping an otherworldly eye on them, as they have for generations of their brood before them. While Edward is committed to this system, he’s becoming more unhinged due to the fact that Rachel is not. Smitten by a local soldier (Eugene Simon) and alternately skeptical and revolted by her situation, Rachel begins to rebel, desperate to escape the oppression and misery of her life and the vitriol of the sneering village locals, who despise the eccentric siblings.
