It took only minutes to write, but a whole lifetime to get there.

Check out a new trailer for "I Can Only Imagine," the faith-based drama that tells the true story of how Christian rock singer-songwriter Bart Millard, from the Christian band "MercyMe," wrote what eventually became the highest-grossing song in Christian music history.

Broadway star J. Michael Finley portrays Millard in the upcoming movie, which also stars Dennis Quaid as Millard's abusive father, who was the main inspiration for the top-charting redemption song "I Can Only Imagine."

Co-starring Trace Adkins, Madeline Carroll, and Cloris Leachman, the film is directed Christian filmmakers Jon Erwin and Andrew Erwin (a.k.a. the Erwin Brothers), who previously directed the comedy "Moms' Night Out" and the football drama "Woodlawn."

"I Can Only Imagine" will be hitting theaters on March 16th.

It's the song that brings ultimate hope to so many. And next Easter, in theaters everywhere, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE will encourage people in a whole new way. The inspiring, incredible, and unknown true story behind MercyMe’s beloved song is the basis for this brand-new movie from the Erwin Brothers (directors of October Baby, Moms' Night Out, and Woodlawn).
