FX has released a new "first look" preview for "The Assassination of Gianni Versace," which is the second installment of the Emmy-winning true-crime anthology drama "American Crime Story" from executive producers Ryan Murphy, Brad Simpson, and Nina Jacobson.

Like its first season which dealt with the O.J. Simpson murder trial, the second season will also dramatize a real-life shocking murder case in the 1990s. The limited series retraces the footsteps of Andrew Cunanan (portrayed here by "Glee" alum Darren Criss), who infamously went on a three-month killing spree in 1997, killing a number of high-profile gay men, which ended with the shooting murder of legendary Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace.

Acclaimed Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez (Joy, Deliver Us from Evil, Bright) plays Gianni Versace while Oscar-winning Spanish actress Penelope Cruz (in her first television role) co-stars as Gianni's sister and business partner, Donatella Versace.

Puerto Rican recording superstar Ricky Martin, who in the 90s started his career as a soap opera star on "General Hospital," makes his return to television with the FX mini-series, co-starring as Gianni's long-term boyfriend, Italian model Antonio D'Amico.

Written by acclaimed screenwriter/novelist Tom Rob Smith (Child 44, London Spy) and based on the best-selling investigative book by Maureen Orth, the 10-part drama, in which Ryan Murphy directs the first hourlong episode, will premiere on Wednesday, January 17 on FX.
